Animal Shelter Holds Pet Food Drive

If someone walked into the Sacramento County Animal Shelter asking for pet food, they’d likely be turned away because supplies are too low. The “Pet Pantry” is a service at the shelter that supplies pet food to owners who may not be able to afford to feed their dog and/or cat.

And due to its bare shelves, the shelter is holding a food drive. Dispatcher Laura Badaker said the Pet Pantry is essentially a pet retention program in place so people can continue to care for their pets without having to give them away.

People can donate pet food anytime during the shelter’s business hours, which are Wednesday through Friday, 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, noon to 4:30 p.m. If those hours don’t work, Badaker can be reached at (916) 876-7657 to schedule a drop-off time.
