One thing I can say about this weekend: you’ll eat good. And have fun tasting wines. Oh, and meeting some great dogs and cats looking for a new home. What could be better than eating well and meeting your new best friend at the same time?
Head on over to River Stone Chophouse for the Passion for Paws outdoor picnic and wine tasting tomorrow. Tickets are $20 for the picnic and $25 for the wine tasting. There will be Angus Beef Burgers and House-made Hot Dogs with delicious sides, tasty doggie treats, more than 10 summer wines for tasting, games, contests, and drawings. Dogs are welcome as long as they are friendly. Proceeds benefit Suffolk Humane Society. River Stone Chophouse is located at 8032 Harbour View Boulevard in Suffolk. The picnic runs from 11 to 3.
Do you have a barn cat that needs to be spayed or neutered? SHS is having a special with the Virginia Beach SPCA Neuter Scooter. They’re offering a $20 spay/neuter for all barn cats this week. They’ll be at the Magnolia Ruritan Club on the 18th and at the SHS office on the 19th. “Barn Cats” for this special includes cats that look like a barn, are as big as a barn, have seen a barn, live in a house like a barn, have heard of a barn, or live with people who know what a barn is. In other words, all cats qualify. They do need to be up to date on shots. If not, shots are available for a reduced price. Call 757-538-3030 for more info or to make an appointment. Magnolia Ruritan Club is located at 1047 Nansemond Parkway. The new SHS office is located at 4300 Nansemond Parkway in Driver.

HHS is located at 430 Waller Mill Road in Williamsburg.
If you’re participating in the Couponing for Paws for the Peninsula SPCA, they want you to drop off the items and receipts you have collected so far at the shelter today. The contest doesn’t end until August 3rd but this helps keep track of items and totals.

Now for some bad news. Nature’s Variety has recalled some varieties of dog food. They’re recalling the Prairie Beef Meal and Barley Kibble because it has a bad odor. It’s not contaminated in any way but it’s not staying fresh for the shelf life either. The 5, 15, 30 pound, and 3 ounce sample size of the Prairie Beef Meal and Barley Kibble are the only ones being recalled. If you’ve purchased some, return it to the store for a full refund or exchange it for a different variety. You can call Nature’s Variety at 888-519-7387 or visit the website at www.naturesvariety.com for more info. You can also email them at www.naturesvariety.com/contactus/form.
Well, that’s it for this week. Get out there and have fun with your dog. Or go adopt a dog to have fun with!
